Billy Riggs, an Assistant Minister at a church in Raleigh, spent an entire day in prayer and sensed the Lord's leading to found a new church- thoroughly Biblical, but clearly contemporary in style and dedicated to the task of reaching those who do not normally attend church. An informational meeting was called on January 12, 1988 with nearly eighty people coming to hear the vision described. Forty-five pioneers agreed to commit to the church and met four times during the next few month at a local community center to prepare. Our first worship service took place on June 5, 1988 at Athens Drive High School with nearly 250 people present. Sunday School classes began a week later. In 1989 we hired a youth pastor. By January of 1990, 800 people were regularly jamming the auditorium, which was designed to seat only 550. Blessings and Growth Over the next five years, we grew in numbers and staff and moved into a larger space at Sanderson High School. In May 1995 God miraculously intervened again, this time to provide us with a home of our own -- the Black and Decker Building (our current facility). After building out to provide ministry space, our first worship service in our new building was held in December 1996. In March 1997 staff moved into newly renovated office space. In July 1997, Steve Breedlove became Senior Pastor and re-ignited our passion for God's work in our lives and in the church. Under his leadership our church grew, staff was enlarged and new building plans were developed to provide space for our growing ministries. In June 2001, Chuck Milian became the Senior Pastor of Crossroads. As a founding member, Chuck has been privileged to be a part of our vision since the beginning. He is passionate about helping people begin a relationship with God, seeing people grow to maturity as followers of Christ, and reaching our city and world for Christ. Under Chuck's leadership, the church as continued to grow in membership, minstries areas and staff. As a result, we expanded our facility to include the Student Center/ Theater and 50,000 square feet of new ministry space including an awesome Children's facility, adult education space, a commercial kitchen, and lots of space to sit and get to know people. Investing in People Crossroads Fellowship is people. From its inception, our church has intentionally invested its money in people, whether giving to the needy, sending missionaries abroad, hiring staff to minister in our community, or designing ministries that serve and nurture those in our family. An ever-expanding array of ministries, outreaches, small groups, classes and ministries is evidence of Crossroads Fellowship's belief in the importance of people.
