Some say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but to the homeless in Raleigh’s downtown area, it could be the meal that changes their lives. More than 100 people four to five days a week receive a good breakfast and an opportunity to hear the gospel from Mary Judd and her volunteers. Many of the homeless are single mothers and children. Most overnight shelters offer supper but no breakfast for them. (The Raleigh Rescue Mission is an exception.) Mary began her ministry in 1996 feeding people on her front porch, and she has continued to feed the hungry as well as offer job referrals, clothing, housing and other basic needs for an often-forgotten segment of our population. They are currently serving breakfasts at Wesleyan First Church of Deliverance, 1201 Boyer Street in Raleigh.
